Welcome to Fira Marina! My little place in the world of handmade lampwork glass.

I'm Rebecca and Fira Marina is what’s come of my interest in glassmaking. All of my beads are created by me, right here at home in my glass studio. My husband Matt does all of my website design and maintenance. That's Matt and I in the photo above with our dog, Nimbus. You can meet our bird, Avery (aka ‘Chick’) at the bottom of the page.

'Fira Marina' comes from the Greek word for fire - 'Fira' and the feminine form of the Italian word for sea or seashore - 'Marina'. The name is inspired by the elements involved in the process and the results - fire and sand are used to create glass, and glass has properties and appearance similar to water. The reflective and transparent qualities of glass naturally enhance color and light. What's so interesting about working with glass is being able to capture those qualities. Given shape, the results are captivating.

My aim is to create beads with a great sense of color and style. There are many things that inspire me... nature, fashion, moods, memories, photos, events in everyday life, etc. While you're here, browse through my gallery. Contact me if you're interested in beads for sale. Thanks for visiting!

Many thanks to all who have helped me along the way, to those who appreciate what I do and, most of all, to my patrons... I wish you all the best in everything that you do!

Avery is a White-Capped Pionus - a medium sized parrot native to Central America. He was given to us over eight years ago by his former companion who could no longer care for him. He's twelve years old.

We adopted Nimbus from Bay Area Boxer Rescue located in San Jose, CA in February, 2004. He's four years old now. If you're looking to adopt a specific breed, we hope you'll consider breed-specific rescue organizations for great animals that really need homes. If you live in northern California and are looking to adopt a Boxer, please visit Bay Area Boxer Rescue on the web. It's a wonderful organization and a great place to adopt from. Best of all, if you're just looking to adopt the companion that jumps out and claims you, we hope you'll visit your local animal shelter, humane society or try searching by your criteria and area at Petfinder.
